Harold Walling

On May 16, 2023, The Lord tapped Harold Randolph Walling on the shoulder and told him it was time come home. Anxious to be with the love of his life, he went quietly and peacefully. Harold was born in Antlers on January 15, 1926. He was number nine out of eleven children and at the age of two his mother passed and his father had passed the year before. He was raised by one of his sisters and her husband along with his other siblings. He went to school at Moyers and met Theda Shaw where they went together in high school. They later married on August 3, 1946. Harold served his country by joining the Navy in WWII. His wartime was spent aboard the USS Makin Island CVE 93, it was a Casablanca class escort carrier which was part of the Pacific fleet. His rank was Yeoman 3rd Class V-6 USNR-SV. He was discharged in June 1946 with many service ribbon awards. Upon returning to the United States, Harold and Theda started their married lives in California. Harold attended school to become a Master Aviation Mechanic. He graduated from the Aero Industries Technical Institute in 1949. In 1950, they moved to the Fort Worth, TX., area. Harold got his private pilot license. As an air craft mechanic, he worked for Braniff Airlines and Frontier Airlines. He ended his working career at Lockheed Martin. In 1957, they adopted a son, Don. He passed at the age of 10. They continued to live many more years together in their house on College Circle South, in NRH. When Theda’s health declined, they moved to Paris, TX to be closer to his nieces. Harold was a faithful member of the Church of Christ, worshiping and serving as a member of the College Hill Church in North Richland Hills for over 50 years. Harold was a joking and fun loving person who was loved by many. He loved a good dame of dominoes and Waa-Hoo. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Theda of 74 years and their son, Harold Don Walling. He is also preceded by his 10 siblings. He is survived by Floyd and Shirley Pryor of Antlers, Mary Bollier of Antlers, Floyd Gale and Joan Thomas of Azle, TX, Donnie and Martha Thomas of Tulsa, and numerous great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by many extended families, Wesley and Vickie Coles and their daughter Leslie Smith and her husband and children; Robert and Sue Waller and their children, Rob Waller and Susan Wright and their spouses and children. The family ask in lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Children’s Home of Lubbock, Tx and/or Christ Haven in Keller, Tx. Graveside services were held on May 23, 2023 at the Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park with Robert Waller Officiating.
